Although I love the feel and build quality of the Minolta Maxxum 7Xi I am disappointed with its consistently poor autofocus with the 28-105 lens. Most of the time the focus locks onto something behind the subject.
Exposure is mostly accurate and this combo makes good decisions based on available light in most conditions.
The Ektar film is great but your focus needs to be sharp in order to make the most of the fine grain. This helps when scanning too. The sharper your first image when taking the actual photo the better your final scanned image will look. So with this Minolta set up the sharpness was just not good enough. I had much more luck using my Nikon FM with 50mm 1.8 lens and manual focus.
If you're thinking of picking up an old Maxxum 7Xi don't spend too much. If you do have one you'll get better results using the 50mm lens.
